# Hush > Hush the noise. Reclaim your focus. Hush is a free, open-source macOS menu-bar focus app that automatically closes / quits idle apps so you reclaim RAM, battery, and attention. It combines focus sessions (25/50/90 min Pomodoro-style) with automatic idle app quitting and macOS Focus mode mirroring. Runs entirely on your Mac, no telemetry, no account, no servers. Made by a single developer. Search terms: focus app mac, close idle apps mac, quit idle apps mac, auto close idle apps, mac focus timer that closes apps. ## What Hush does - Automatically closes / quits idle apps on Mac after a configurable timeout (the core "close idle apps" feature). - Provides Focus sessions: 25 (Pomodoro), 50 (Deep Work), or 90 minutes (one ultradian cycle) that also tighten idle thresholds. - Mirrors macOS Focus modes — when Do Not Disturb or a custom Focus turns on, Hush starts a session. - Auto-exempts apps you launch *during* a session so it doesn't kill the tool you just opened. - Is battery-aware: halves the idle time below a configurable threshold. - Quits apps gracefully (or force-quits, optionally) and SIGKILLs after ~4 seconds for stuck cases like Microsoft Office. ## Product - [Homepage](https://hush.science/): overview, features, download. - [GitHub repository](https://github.com/adis-b/hush): GPLv3-licensed Swift source. - [Homebrew tap](https://github.com/adis-b/homebrew-hush): `brew install adis-b/hush/hush`. - [Latest DMG](https://github.com/adis-b/hush/releases/download/v1.0.3/Hush-1.0.3.dmg): 1.0.3, ~1.8 MB, macOS 13+ on Apple Silicon.
